Halloween is a special time in the Rode household. It is one of our favorite holidays! The house gets a spooky makeover. We get dressed up. And there are so many fabulously fun parties to attend! What is not to love?
Last October, an idea came to Alyson while volunteering at the Animal Protection Society of Durham. The shelter was desperately low on food, and Alyson wanted to come up with a new way of bringing in donations. Her idea – combining our love of Halloween with our passion for photography and getting the community involved. That’s how Scare Away Hunger was born.
Each October, we invite the community to join us for Scare Away Hunger. Visitors get free photos of their kids and/or pets on our Halloween/fall themed studio set in exchange for food donations to either the Animal Protection Society of Durham or the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Kids are able to trick or treat and visit with/feed our rescued animals. Pets are rewarded with treats as well. Finally, all the families that participate get their names entered into a drawing for a free one-hour photo session.
The 2013 edition of Scare Away Hunger was a huge success! We raised over 400 lbs. of food for two incredible organizations, something we would not have been able to do without the help of all the families who participated in our campaign. We’ve put together a gallery of our favorite photos from Scare Away Hunger 2013. We hope you enjoy them as much as we have!
And the winner of our free one-hour photo session giveaway is the Nemechek Family! Congratulations!
We can’t begin to thank the families that joined us this year enough for their interest and desire to help those in need! We loved meeting each of you and look forward to seeing all of you back in front of our cameras again!
If you are interested in participating in Scare Away Hunger, please email Alyson at firstname.lastname@example.org, and she’ll add you to our email list so that you get first dibs on time spots for next year’s event.
