Back in July, I drove down to Jacksonville to do a portrait session with the Jacksonville High School men’s soccer team. They were being highlighted by MaxPreps as one of the top programs in the country. You can read the article here: MaxPreps 2013 Soccer Early Contenders: Jacksonville HS.
When I was first asked to do the shoot, I couldn’t figure out why I recognized the team and their coach. As I went back through my soccer action photos for ideas, I figured it out. I had covered Jacksonville in the state championship last year and the playoffs the year before. I knew they had to be good to be considered for this story, but I didn’t realize just how good. A friend, who is very involved in area soccer programs, said it best, “All roads to a state championship go through Jacksonville. It’s not an easy road, and there is no way around.”
Yeah, they are that good.
I had a blast hanging out with and getting to know the guys from the Jacksonville High School soccer team. If what was said is true, and all roads do lead to Jacksonville, I know I’ll be seeing them again real soon. That’s something I am definitely looking forward to!
