Each year, the Animal Protection Society of Durham participates in the Clear the Shelter Day, a nationwide effort to clear every shelter in America. August 14th was this year’s Clear the Shelter event and it was a huge success for the APS with almost 100 animals in the shelter’s care finding forever homes.
It takes a monumental team effort to make an event like this happen. The shelter staff and volunteers did an incredible job working with every person who came through the doors to find their perfect match. The excited looks on humans and animals alike make it all worth it.
Here are some of our favorite photos from the day.
- This couple waited in line for four hours to make sure they could adopt a puppy they had met earlier in the week.
- Needless to say, he was just as happy about his new forever home as they were.
- This young lady came in for one cat and ended up leaving with two when she found out the guy she picked had a brother. “They have to stay together!”
- Kisses and true love…
- How can you say no to that?
- This woman made my day. The look on her face when she found her perfect new companion says it all.
- Staff and volunteers make sure that every animal that leaves the shelter is microchipped.
- Ready to go home with a new best friend.
